She is marked for death, sold by Tal-Bern to the highest bidder for sacrifice during the bloodthirsty Rite of Long Moon – which is fast approaching!
Though all seems lost, the shuttered window to her future opens when one night she spies a tall young man in shadows beyond the crowd – a man with a face like hers! The incident sets in motion a chain of events that leaves the girl running for her life. Crissa’s headlong flight carries her toward the mysteries of a murky past, her Human face, and the wonderment of love and belonging. If only Tal-Bern doesn’t destroy her first!
Crissa’s observant narrative drives a story that explores the burden of exclusion, the power of kindness, and what it means to be human.

With most books, I don't pay a lot of attention to the number of pages left to read. "Ugly Girl" was the exception!! While wanting to discover how it ended, I hated to reach the end.This story has a cross-section of humanity: the good, the bad, and the ugly - as well as twists, turns, and surprises that kept this reader wanting more. And it was refreshing to read a book that has NO foul language and NO sexually graphic material...........although the author did have the opportunity to use both.
Possible Spoiler Alert:
The ending is surprising...............leaving just one thread untied: the wolf.

Ugly Girl eBook David J Nix Reviews
I rarely write reviews, but then I rarely read books anymore that deserve that much of my time. This book however was not only completely different from anything I have ever read, it was amazing in every way from storyline, to grammar. I can easily say I have never before read a book that affected me so deeply that I was truly glad I had picked it in a moment of genuine reading ennui. My thanks to the author for reminding me that there are still new stories to tell.
Excellent book. I loved this story. Beautifully written. Made me think and examine the true meaning of humanity. I will be looking at other books by this author.
The story of this book is very unique and different from all other dystopian type books I have read. I loved the storyline and the character Crissa.
This was a very interesting read, with a fascinating mystery regarding Crissa's appearance, and the world around her. Some elements, like the long moon ritual felt unnecessary. I think the book would have worked just as well for being about ONE thing that made her different, but that's a small quibble in the scheme of things. The culture of the Neanderthal world was especially developed, and I really enjoyed the people in Crissa's life, some of whom have significant development through the novel, and are not quite as simple as they seem at first. I particularly enjoyed Ferel's story as these side characters go. I would certainly read another novel set in this universe, and have been given some food for thought in approaching my own world building!
