I blame Phillip Finley for my lack of progress on my "to do list" the day his book arrived in the mail. I wrangled it out of the wrapper and sat in the midst of unfolded laundry, traveling back in time to sweet and precious memories, in little Pratt Kansas.I lived it, right next to him - literally in the next block and it was interesting to read his thoughts and memories, and compare them to my own.
It's not going to compete with Steinbeck, but for a memoire, it's an enjoyable read and brought numerous smiles with colorful descriptions of black American style and culture in what became a bittersweet time of confusion and loss of innocence. Phillip's affection for Pratt will be echoed by others, no doubt, and I am one of those who relishes that time gone by. Thanks Phillip for making me put down the "to do" list, for one afternoon's pleasant distraction!

Great for anyone from Pratt, Kansas
I also grew up in Pratt, Kansas. I lived a few streets over from Phillip and his family. It was an innocent time a less hateful time. I remember playing with all the kis in town and at that time, I didnt know there was any difference, color didnt matter. It still shouldnt but sadly, it does. I look forward to reading his memories...
This was purchased has the author was located here in my town when growing up. I have seen him since he has written more books & he has had a book signing.
This is a great book for anyone who grew up or lives in Pratt, Kansas.
It really brings back a lot of great times. It would also be a good read
for anyone who wants to read a positive,uplifting story.
